In Social Studies, we learned about being business owners/entrepreneurs, and the role of the producer and the consumer.
In Language Arts, we wrote a persuasive essay/commercial, urging people to come to their place of business.
The day finally came for them to open up their stores! They first had to visit the Bank of Johnston and properly ask to borrow $50 to start their business. They also each received $25 of spending money.
Next, they set up their stores, and priced each of their items, being careful not to be too high, and not to be too low.
We took turns being producers and consumers.
We felt like Jacob had the most unique idea...he made his miniature cones, and custom-filled the cones, to the buyer's liking.
We had a few kids do a little "commercial" by eating it in front of everyone...the cones sold out within minutes!! :)
Finally, everyone counted their money, and returned the $50 to the Bank of Johnston.
They were very serious at this point!
It turns out that Kayla made the most profit! She ended up with $55 after returning her money to the bank. Congratulations, Kayla!
Here is a little peek of the fun commotion on Store Day:
Kids usually tell me that this is the most fun Social Studies class...until we have the International Feast, that is! Then THAT clearly becomes our favorite day:)
