Slimy Science!!

I just LOVE it when science creates BIG REACTIONS from the kids!

We did an experiment to determine if the changes are physical or chemical.

We made a glue and water mixture first. Then we made a water and Borax mixture. Finally, we poured the Borax into the glue mixture....and voila!

Don't you just love everyone's faces?

We determined that it was a CHEMICAL change since a NEW SUBSTANCE called POLYMER was created.

How did that happen? When you add Borax, it binds the slippery glue molecules together in a web, so they can't move around as much.

Borax turns the watery glue into a denser, more rubber-like substance called Polymer.

The result? PURE FUN in science class!

It was unanimously decided that this was the BEST. SCIENCE. CLASS. EVER.

Spirit Day and Thanksgiving Feast 2016

You turkeys better run...cause the chefs are in town!

The kids looked amazing in their turkey and chef outfits for the Spirit Day hosted by the 5th grade teachers.

This Grill Master was ready to BBQ these turkeys!

Chef Elizabeth was ready to dig right in :)

These chefs were hungry, too!

Speaking of being hungry, look at this amazing plate of food that we got at our Thanksgiving Feast! Everything was SO delicious!
I was able to capture the kids' excitement and smiles :)

After stuffing ourselves with the meal, it was time to relax with a Veggie Tales movie. We watched "The Bad Apple" and learned about resisting temptation.

Later, we had an extra time of recess where we got to run off our carbs! Then we negated all of our exercise and ate 3 different kinds of delicious dessert:)

It was a GREAT afternoon in Mrs. Johnston's class!
