SUPERSTAR Open House

Meet the cast members of Mrs. Johnston's 3rd Grade SUPERSTARS!!

Here are a few pictures of our room prepared for Open House. I forgot to take one of our entrance door with the frills, but I guess it's okay since I overheard one of the 2nd grade parents saying, "Oh my goodness, it looks like a casino entrance!!" Oh well :)

Thank you for your kind words as you walked through. I could not be more proud of all of the things that our students have done and learned this year.

Cheez-Its Math

Sometimes, you just have to eat in math to truly "ingest" what you are learning :)

Did you know that Cheez-Its are a perfect 1 inch square? What a perfect tool to use for finding the AREA and PERIMETER in inches and square inches. Enjoy the photos of your kids learning while eating!

Planet Models

As the final project for science, the students were divided in to 5 groups. Each group was given a solar system kit to build and paint on their own without any help from the teacher.

They read all of the instructions on their own, and discussed what each student should do.

Everyone participated and helped one another.

I literally did not do a thing to help them.

They had to listen to one another, correct each other gently, and cooperate to come up with a group model.

And LOOK AT THE RESULTS!! Each group did an OUT OF THIS WORLD job! So proud of them! The parents were quite impressed when they all came around during open house.

Top Secret Agents and Scientists Visit the Classroom!!

Our class had the most incredible visitors the other day...yes, Top Secret scientists hired by the government to study the planets and to come up with ways for humans to inhabit those planets.

I must say, we had the cutest...errr...the most interesting, engaging, and lively presentations we have ever had in the classroom!

There were foreign liquids and materials brought from outer space.

These were some serious scientists ready to present some serious galactic information.

We appreciated Dr. Mills and Dr. Cubias for their hands-on demonstration.

I guess that Dr. Johnson's report was too hot to handle without the gloves.

Every single scientist did a TOP NOTCH job on their presentations.
