Our First Spirit Rally!

We had a BLAST at the first Spirit Rally! Great job, Mrs. Racusin!

I'm sorry that I didn't get all of the kids in action during the Spoon and Egg relay (many of them were blurry since they were moving too fast:))

Look at these cute cheerleaders encouraging their classmates!

And here they are praising the Lord through dance! I love this clip. They are just adorable.

Creating a Community

One of the things that we have been working on in class is TEAMWORK. In order to learn to work effectively as a group, the students must be placed in a variety of project groups.

This past week in Social Studies, the kids have been working hard on creating their very own "Dream Community". They planned a suburb with houses, places of service, and places of entertainment.

I stopped them often to coach them on problem solving strategies...how to LISTEN to one another, how to speak up and communicate your desires in a kind way, and how to compromise.

In the midst of disagreements and frustrations, they all came through with a beautiful community of their own. I was quite impressed to see how many overcame conflict and resolved issues by talking.

Today, they finally got to present their city to the class. The following are the oral presentations for Snowflake City, Green Nature City, and Hidden Valley. Where would you want to live?

Sound Energy Experiment

In science, we have been learning about the various types of energy. Today, we got to do an experiment with sound energy. The students observed that sound can travel through the air, and actually cause an object to move through vibrations.

In these photos, they are seeing if soft sound energy waves or loud sound waves can move salt particles on a cup.

Say "Ahhhhhh!"

It was fun to catch a reaction after seeing the cool movement of the salt! Loud sounds make them MOVE!

They brought me so much joy today! There were so many cute moments throughout the day. Just look at those smiles!!

I am truly grateful to the Lord to have EACH of them in my class.

Mystery Community Activity

In social studies, we have been learning about the various characteristics of communities. Today, they got to use their imagination and "travel" to some mystery locations. Using the clues as well as photos, they determined if their destination was rural, suburb, or urban area.

My favorite quote of the day was, "Wait...that was social studies?? I actually had fun doing this!"

I love it when my students have fun WHILE they learn!

Tic Tac Know

Learning our Language Arts vocabulary is so much better when it's made into a game! The students played a fun variation of a classic to review their vocab definitions.
