Charlie and the Chocolate Factory Week 2

 MONDAY:

One of my favorite scenes in the movie is when Willy Wonka eats the flower in the edible garden!

So I had the kids make an edible garden, too! First, they crushed up the Oreos to make the soil.

Then, I gave them individual bags of edible grass, chocolate rocks, sugar flowers, and an earthworm to create their scenery!!

Here is a video clip of them eating the garden:

TUESDAY:
The kids couldn't believe how greedy Augustus Gloop was by drinking out of the chocolate river when he was told not to!

We were very curious to see what the Wonka factory chocolate would taste like, especially when it is stirred by a waterfall.

Thanks to my connections with the Wonka factory, I was able to get a small sample from the chocolate river...BEFORE Augustus Gloop fell into it!

WEDNESDAY:
This was the day when we were introduced to so many of Mr. Wonka's candy inventions.

We were so excited to find the Everlasting Gobstoppers being sold at the Dollar Tree!

We wrote the beginning time of when we put the candy in our mouths,  and wrote the ending time of when it melted completely (without biting the candy!).

What a fun way to incorporate our Elapsed Time math unit!

Jason and Elise were the winners of making the Everlasting Gobstoppers last the longest!

THURSDAY:
Today was an exciting day...we read about the Fizzy Lifting Drink that would make us float to the ceiling!

Ours didn't quite work, but that's ok. We had fun drinking it anyway.

What DID work was our Lickable Wallpaper!

We unwrapped the fruit roll-ups and licked them as if they were the fruit flavored wallpaper in Mr. Wonka's factory. So tasty!!

FRIDAY:

Today, we read about the most creative inventions by Willy Wonka:

We had some Invisible Chocolate Bars for Eating in Class. They were absolutely delicious.

The Candy-Coated Pencils for sucking sounded quite interesting, but what caught our attention were the EXPLODING CANDY FOR YOUR ENEMIES.

We, of course, had to try some!

We have had SO MUCH FUN with this book, we don't want it to end!

On Thursday, we will watch the original 1971 version of the movie in class. We can't wait :)
