NAVIGATING THROUGH THE DAILY WORK

Parents,

I have been EXTREMELY PROUD of the amazing work that your students have turned in. The last set of classwork and homework have been impressive!!

I have sent you a video about this before, but I just want to go through the entire day's process with you so that you are aware of what your child is doing every day.

Each day goes in this same order:
1) Morning Message
2) BIBLE
3) Language Arts
4) Math
5) Science/Social Studies (not every day)
6) Specialists
7) Early Finishers (These cannot be done UNTIL your student has finished the REQUIRED WORK for the day.)
8) Dismissal Time (This is the board from the classroom that they are used to seeing. It lists all of the independent work for the day. This does NOT include classwork on the videos.)

Let me show you what the day looks like in photos for the visual parents like me :)

1) Morning Meeting: They first go to Mr. Barnes to hear his announcements. Your student will click on ALL the blue words, which are the links to my videos.

2) BIBLE: Be sure that your child is clicking where is says, "see more". Otherwise, they will miss out on a bunch of instructions underneath.

This is what your student sees when they click on the video link (below). I am finding out that some kids are ONLY watching ones that may look interesting, and skipping ones they do not want to see.

PLEASE TELL YOUR CHILD THAT THEY MUST WATCH EVERY SINGLE VIDEO!

Even though this video has 22 views (above), that does not guarantee that it's 22 views of my students (others can watch). The only way that I know your child watched it is for them to post a comment underneath.

3) Language Arts

Notice the 4 videos. If your child watches them, they will receive a full explanation on what to do.

The photos are pictures of pages to find in their folders. As always, if they cannot find them, they can use lined paper.

They can also ask me questions at any time using the private chats on the left hand side. The parents can also use that, or just email me:).

4) MATH:

Some math lessons can be long, so I try to put BRAIN BREAK VIDEOS in between 2 lessons, or tell them to go run around the house and do exercises!

5) Science/Social Studies: If they have Science/SS for that day, it will be after Math, and it will look like this.
Since I did not send a science textbook home, I have been taking pictures of the textbook pages for them to read and use to do their worksheets.

6) Specialists: If they have a specialist for that day, the kids know how to get to the Teams for the class.

7) Early Finishers: Again, the kids cannot do this (below) until they have done all of their work. It is very important that they go in THIS ORDER each day. If you see your student doing art or other activities early on in the day, please be certain that they have done everything else FIRST.

Here is an example of a craft idea:

And here is Max's creation. Good job! When I posted the video on how to make paper airplanes, Casey made a basket full of them! I love to hear all about it, so have them post.

8) Dismissal Time: This is what your student has been using at the end of their work day to see if they have completed all of their "homework" (aka independent work).

This concludes the tour of your child's virtual school day.

I hope this has been informative. Keep sending me your questions! Never apologize for needing more information. I am here for you!!

ZOOM Easter Party!

NOTHING will keep us from having a PARTY in Mrs. Johnston's class...especially an EASTER party to celebrate our RISEN SAVIOR!

First we ate our snacks together! We tried to share with our friends...

Then, we had a fashion show of our nice Easter outfit! I think Kayla wins first place for presentation (with the space background!).

We played charades and pictionary as well as a game of drawing a picture on our heads!!

There was a virtual Egg Hunt...can you find all of the eggs in our classroom (see the photos below)?

Ask your student how many there were:)

Then we just basically had fun and frivolity! I love the various expressions on their faces.

We ended our party with the declaration that HE IS ALIVE!! HAPPY EASTER EVERYONE!

Virtual Book Clubs!

First of all, can I just say HOW MUCH I miss seeing the kids in person?? I cannot begin to tell you how sad I am that we have missed so many days of being together.

Secondly, I have appreciated the technology that has allowed us to connect face to face.

I had been posting these pictures on our Microsoft Teams site, but realized that many of you parents out there may have not seen them!

Here are a few pictures of our weekly Book Club Meetings!

Even though I do love to hear them read, it warms my heart to just catch up and see how they are doing!
