Recipe Creations!

As an introduction to our explanatory writing, I had the students create their very own recipe, list the ingredients, and tell me how to made their dish.

There were quite a few INTERESTING combinations of foods! Some honorable mentions were the Dough Roll by Samantha which called for a mixture of scrambled eggs, cheese, salmon, crab, chicken, and rice. All of this delicious concoction must be rolled in pizza dough with a sheet of seaweed, drizzled with soy sauce!

Nissim of course knows my love for Mexican food, so his recipe included corn with mayo, Hot Cheetos, Lays, and BBQ Lays...then he tempted me with Tajin and Chamoy!

However, the clear winner was Kimberly's                               Teacup Dessert Surprise!

I gathered all of the ingredients...

...and preheated my oven to 350 as directed.

I used a cup of flour, 2 teaspoons of sugar, and...

...used just 2 eggs in stead of 3.

The dough formed nicely!

I didn't use the 7 toothpicks. I knew what Kimberly was trying to do, and had seen someone using the back of a muffin pan to do a similar thing. Be sure to grease the back of the pan so the "teacup" dough comes off easily.

Voila! Perfect teacup dough!

Then I prepared the strawberries, mango, and bananas.

The SURPRISE part of the recipe are the Dorito chips and the Cheeto Puffs!!

You can just crush them in a bag.

Watch how I put everything together:

Here is the video of Mrs. Johnston eating Kimberly's creation with a little ASMR action...listen to the crunch :)

Great job, everyone!! I hope this inspires you to be creative in the kitchen and try new foods!

Who knew writing could be SO MUCH FUN and SO delicious! Just wait until we do our "How to Build an Ice Cream Sundae" writing!!

Next, we got to chow down on the food! Thank you parents for the generous donations of the delicious fruit, sweets, and CFA nuggets!

The trail mix was full of LOVE!

I love these moms who came to help!                         You ladies are the absolute BEST!!

And now...the moment these kids                                   had been waiting for!                                                       Valentine delivery time :)

This is totally unrelated to the Valentine's Day party, but I wanted to show you the "edible math" we did the other day. Food makes math so much fun!

Your kids are SO FUN to teach!                                      I love them so much!
