POV: Fly on the Wall PART 1

WELCOME to Mrs. Johnston's class, 2024-2025!! Throughout the year, I will be sending you links to visit this classroom blog. I know that sometimes you'd like to be a "fly on the wall" to see the sights and sounds of what your child may be experiencing during the day.

The first 2 blogs will be exactly that...I'll post random pics to capture some moments of our days here at school.

First and foremost, here are the Superstars of Mrs. Johnston's 3rd grade class! I'm sure you keep hearing names, and perhaps you'd like to know what they look like:)  Here they are:

Alan Liu was absent on this day that we took the photos, so here is another pic of him so you can meet him:

On the first day of school, we read a book called The Name Jar where a Korean girl who moved to the States tried to find an English name for herself, but then realized that her given name, Unhei, was the best.

It was so wonderful to interview each of our students the next day to find out the origins of their names!

We were reminded of the fact that God knows each of our names...he knew us even before we were born. I love teaching our students how the Lord knows our every thought, and yet loves us so very much.

We also read a book called, "Max the Big Polka Dotted Red Mouse" where we focused on celebrating our differences. Psalm 139 is a beautiful reminder of how we are "fearfully and wonderfully made".

This bulletin board was part of a Mouse Contest that our Principal, Mrs. Araiza, came up with. Even though we didn't win, she still gave us cheese and crackers for us to enjoy!

Here's our cute little mice eating their prize from Mrs. Araiza:

By Friday of our first half-week, these kids had learned how to work QUIETLY at their seats for independent work. I had to bring out my phone to record the moment! I was so impressed:

Speaking of learning, WOW...the students have already learned SO MUCH in the short time we have been together. Take a listen to the 3's and 4's multiplication song as well as the Continents and Oceans Chant:

In Science, we are learning about the 7 steps of Scientific Investigation. You may have heard from your student about our investigations to see what kind of sponge absorbs the most water.

We also made a hypothesis regarding the 3 brands of paper towels, and which may be the strongest:

Here we are using our senses of touch and sight, discussing and writing down our observations of the 3 brands of paper towels:

Be sure to ask your child which sponge and paper towel you should purchase :)

I hope you enjoyed PART 1 of POV: Fly on the Wall.

Part 2 will be coming soon!
