Charlie and the Chocolate Factory Week 1

We are SO EXCITED to begin our book study of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory!!

MONDAY: DAY 1

On the first day, we learned that Charlie Bucket was very poor. He could only afford to buy 1 chocolate bar a year on his birthday. He would nibble on it and make it last for a MONTH!

So...we nibbled on a fun-sized chocolate for the entire reading time. The challenge was to see how long they could make it last!

For some, it only lasted for 10 minutes!!

TUESDAY: DAY 2

The whole world was looking for the 5 Golden Tickets! We wanted to join in the search. Mrs. Johnston hid 5 tickets in the classroom. The search was on!

These were the first 3 winners.

A couple of hours later, one more ticket was found.

Finally, the 5th ticket was found by one determined boy!

DAY 3

Today, we met Violet Beauregarde, the lip-smacking gum-chewer!

We of course had to chew a huge piece of gum and have a bubble blowing contest!

Mrs. Johnston was able to obtain 27 miniature Wonka Bars from the chocolate factory. The directions were to take the bar home, and open it carefully to see if there's a Golden Ticket inside.

I asked the kids to please send me photos if they found a ticket. This was a good batch of Wonka Bars!!

DAY 4

We know that Willy Wonka is the best at making candy. We wanted to try out a cool (and messy) way to make taffy out of marshmallows and corn starch.

Now for the best part...the eating of the homemade taffy! It was a fun, sticky, and delicious experience!

DAY 5

Today, we got to see a video clip of Mrs. Johnston's favorite scene in the original movie:

In honor of the "eatable" garden as Mr. Willy Wonka calls it, we got to make our own!

Our rocks and dirt were quite delectable today.

The grass melted on our tongue and the flowers were sweet and crunchy.

The kids did a beautiful job creating their scenery, and loved the eating part best of all, of course.

We cannot wait to keep reading next week!!
