Week 1 of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory 2022

 DAY 1, Chapters 1-3

We are OVER THE TOP EXCITED about our novel study for the next 3 weeks!

The 3rd grade teachers came in on Monday to decorate our rooms...we LOVE seeing the faces of the kids when they first walk in. It makes it all worthwhile:)

We learned that Charlie Bucket was VERY poor...he got chocolate just once a year on his birthday. He would nibble on it and would make it last for an entire MONTH.

I gave the students a small piece of chocolate for them to nibble on for the entire reading time. I gave them a challenge to see who could make it last the longest.

Judah had the largest piece left at 2:45! Others thought that the competition was already over, so they ate it up shortly before that.

 DAY 2, Chapters 4-6

Today, we met the first two winners of the Golden Ticket: Augustus Gloop and Veruca Salt! Wow, does she need a good spanking!

The kids got to go on a hunt for 5 Golden Tickets that I hid in the room! Here is a video of them looking:

Congratulations to these kiddos for finding them             (Kimberly found TWO!!).

 DAY 3, Chapters 7-9

In today's reading, we found out that Violet Beauregarde, the GUM CHEWER, won the 3rd ticket, and Mike Teevee, the TV addict, won the 4th ticket.

In honor of Violet, we had a bubble blowing contest...only a few in the class knew how to blow bubbles:) Samantha and Cameryn were the winners!

Mrs. Johnston was able to contact the Wonka Factory, and got 27 miniature Wonka Bars for each student. I asked them to open them at home, and send me a photo if there was a Golden Ticket inside!

Here's the proof that they actually found one in their chocolate!

 DAY 4, Chapters 10-12

Charlie FINALLY got his Golden Ticket in today's reading!! He will be visiting Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory very soon. In honor of his delicious candy making skills, we tried our hand at making taffy using marshmallows! So sticky, messy, and yummy!!

We cannot wait until NEXT WEEK!

Who knew reading could be SO. MUCH. FUN.
