Good bye, Aslan!
We were SO very sad to have to say good bye to Aslan, but he will always have a very special place in our hearts.
We also did a guided drawing of Aslan...and WOW is all I can say. We have some talented artists in our class!
On of my favorite quotes (there are many!) in The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe is found in the conversation with Mr. and Mrs. Beaver. When Susan found out that Aslan is a lion, she asked Mr. Beaver if Aslan is "safe".
"Safe? Who said anything about safe? 'Course he isn't safe. But he's good. He's the King."
C.S. Lewis gets to a much deeper meaning here. The word safe refers to the fact that he is strong and powerful and could kill with just one swipe of the paw. Same with Jesus...He is not some wimpy being who caves. He is God Himself who is just, powerful, righteous, holy, and hates sin.
Jesus COULD have called down a host of angels to get him off the cross in an instant, and He could have defeated all of His enemies ...but He didn't. And that is the "good" part of who He is. Because of His great love for you and me, Jesus made the choice to stay on the cross so that we would not have to experience eternal punishment for our sins.
Enjoy the drawings of Aslan, who is not tame...but GOOD.
