How to Build an Ice Cream Sundae!

We had a very productive week of writing in our Writers' Workshop! The objective was to write an "Explanatory Essay" on how to build the ultimate ice cream sundae.

We worked on using excellent action verbs such as "drizzle, sprinkle, crumble, layer". We also made sure to use adverbs to describe our action verbs.

After writing the skeletal outline (coming up with Star Ideas and Red Details), we transferred them to the rough draft page, making certain that everything was written in complete sentences.

After editing, the students wrote their final copy on Friday morning. They were quite motivated to finish because they knew what was coming in the afternoon:)

And then it happened...the Ice Cream Sundae PARTAAAY!!!

The students voted to have chocolate ice cream, Oreo Cookies, Twix, Butterfingers, and Gummy Worms. I added Reeces, marshmallows, sprinkles, whip cream, maraschino cherries, and 2 other kinds of ice cream.

Yes, we did go through 2 large bottles of whip cream. And yes, it was all a part of the plan!

I think Miss Rice and I were just as excited as the kids! We were looking forward to it all day long, too :)

A special thanks to Sharon (Vy Kay's mom) for coming to take pictures for us! All photo credits go to her for this blog!
