I just LOVE it when science creates BIG REACTIONS from the kids!
We did an experiment to determine if the changes are physical or chemical.
We made a glue and water mixture first. Then we made a water and Borax mixture. Finally, we poured the Borax into the glue mixture....and voila!
Don't you just love everyone's faces?
We determined that it was a CHEMICAL change since a NEW SUBSTANCE called POLYMER was created.
How did that happen? When you add Borax, it binds the slippery glue molecules together in a web, so they can't move around as much.
Borax turns the watery glue into a denser, more rubber-like substance called Polymer.
The result? PURE FUN in science class!
It was unanimously decided that this was the BEST. SCIENCE. CLASS. EVER.
