CHARLIE and the CHOCOLATE FACTORY 2026

DAY 1

On Monday morning, the kids walked in to a magical, wacky, and delicious chocolate factory! Here is what the room looked like:

In today's reading, we met Charlie Bucket and his family.

They were so poor that they could only afford to get Charlie one chocolate per year on his birthday. He would nibble on it, and make it last for an entire month!

Each student was given a small chocolate bar, and was given the challenge of nibbling on it during the reading.

Some of us couldn't stand it and just ate the whole thing in a minute! Others were able to keep almost the entire bar for the whole language arts time.

DAY 2

Today, we met the first 2 finders of the Golden ticket: Augustus Gloop and Veruca Salt! We can tell that we will be learning a lot of life lessons from these characters.

Augustus Gloop had a difficult time with self-control.

Veruca Salt was simply a spoiled brat! She threw tantrums until she got her way. Her parents were just as bad since they allowed her to behave that way.

For today's activity, we thought it would be so fun to have our own Golden Ticket hunt. Mrs. Johnston hid 5 tickets all around the room.

Congratulations to our 5 winners!!!

Day 3

Today, we found out that there were 2 more winners: Violet Beauregarde and Mike Teavee.

We were shocked once again by the terrible behaviors of these kids!

Violet was rude to her mom, and she had the bad habit of smacking on her gum. She would chew the same piece of gum for months at a time!

Mike Teavee was addicted to screen time. He enjoyed watching gun violence, and even mentioned that he wanted to do what they're doing! Yikes!

After talking about Violet's gum-chewing, of course we had to try out a huge piece of bubble gum!

We decided to have a bubble-blowing contest. These were our judges:

And here were the contestants. But first, we had to chew and smack like Violet for a moment:

Blowing bubbles was harder than we thought!

Day 4

Today was a VERY exciting day...Mrs. Johnston was able to get some miniature Wonka Bars from the Willie Wonka chocolate factory!!

I sent each one home to the kids, instructing them to send me a photo if they won a Golden Ticket.

Well, this was a good batch! Here are the pictures that I received. Congratulations!!

We cheered so loudly when we found out that Charlie Bucket was the final winner of the Golden Ticket! He will get to tour Mr. Wonka's factory!

We were imagining the various candies made there, like taffy. I taught the kids how to make their own taffy using their fingers and a marshmallow!

The homemade taffy was quite good! The kids were surprised by it:

Day 5

In today's reading, Charlie and the kids got to meet Willy Wonka, and began the tour of the factory!

The first room was absolutely MAGICAL. It was an edible garden! Willy Wonka says "eatable".

We watched the movie clip of what it looked like, and imagined how everything could have tasted. Mrs. Johnston's favorite scene is when Wonka drinks from the flower and eats it:

Of course we couldn't just imagine it...we had to MAKE AN "EATABLE" GARDEN!!

We had soil, earthworms, garden rocks, grass, and flowers.

Here we are making dirt using Oreos:

Look at their beautiful creations:

And here we are eating the garden:

What an exciting week it was...and the fun's not over!!

We are looking forward to more adventures with Charlie next week!
