"This is the BEST science class EVER!!" Those words are music to my ears.
In science, we have been studying about matter. One of the chapters talks about physical changes and chemical changes...what better way to experience a chemical change than for them to actually see it and feel it happening right in front of their eyes!
First, we mixed glue, water, and food color. Next, we mixed the Borax with warm water.
Then, we slowly poured the Borax mixture into the glue mixture...I wish I video taped their reactions, but I tried to snap as many photos as I could around the room :)
The students saw a brand new substance form...instead of calling it "slime", we learned that it is called "polymer". And yes, they understood that it was a chemical change for sure!
After kneading for quite a while, we were able to get the polymer out of the plastic bag.
We spent quite a while forming a variety of shapes with it!
This is one of my favorite days in science as well because of these FACES that I get to see!!
Once again, thank you for the gift of these kiddos. They make my job a JOY.
Priceless reactions!!!
