Spectacular Store Day!!

This was the day that Language Arts, Social Studies, and Math collided with a whole bunch of FUN!

In Language Arts, the students wrote a persuasive essay in which they created their own place of business, then tried to persuade the readers to come and purchase their goods and services.

Then in Social Studies, they learned about consumers and producers as well as supply and demand.

The final activity was to bring 5 items to sell from their place of business. They were given play-money to spend, as well as money from the bank as a loan to begin their business. They knew that they would have to pay back the loan at the end of the day, so they were very careful not to over-spend.

Here are the wonderful stores on their big day:

Rolly Kitchen

Chocolate World

Batter's Up

Frosty Fun

Sweet Treat

Pet Play House

Rough Riders Dirt Bike Shop

Bakery Corner

Sunshine Mall

Chocoland

Funky BBQ Funhouse

The Petastic Amazing Pet Shop

Seth's Hockey Academy

Yummy Play

Kick's Sports Shop and Training Camp

Amari's Automatic Shoe Store

Fit 'n Health

The kids took turns being consumers and producers.

At the very end, they all counted up their money...

...and paid back the loan to the bank.

Finally, the students tallied up their profit from their sales. We took the time to evaluate their business plans. Some realized that they sold their items way too low. Some regretted that their prices were much too high, thus losing to their competition.

At the end, they all agreed that it was one of their favorite Social Studies lessons ever:) Music to the teacher's ears!
