The books were set out, ready to open the kids' minds to a world of imagination!
Here we go...
WEEK 1: Monday
Today, we met Charlie Bucket and his entire family. We learned that they were so poor that they could only afford to buy Charlie a chocolate bar once a year on his birthday.
Even then, he would just sniff the chocolate for a couple of days...so we tried just that.
Then, I challenged them to take a nibble, just like Charlie did. He made his bar of chocolate last for an entire month!
The challenge was to see who could make it last the longest...I checked at 2:45pm...the winners were Henry and Aurora, with Kora as a close runner up :)

Tuesday
Today, we learned that Willy Wonka hid 5 golden tickets in his candy bars!
We met the first winner, Augustus Gloop. We noticed that he had no self control when it came to food! Yikes! The second winner was the horrible Veruca Salt who was spoiled rotten.
We wanted to join in the fun, so Mrs. Johnston announced that she had hidden 5 golden tickets in the classroom!
Here is how the search went down:
Congratulations to our 5 winners!
Wednesday
Today we met the 3rd and 4th winners out of the 5. Mike Teavee was the third winner, and we were shocked by his love for violence on TV!
The next person was Violet Beauregarde, who was quite impolite as she constantly smacked on gum every single day. She even chewed on the same piece of gum for 3 months straight!!
Here we are getting ready to put one in our mouth!
Here is the bubble gum blowing competition:
The excitement of the day was not over. Mrs. Johnston was able to contact the Wonka Factory to get some mini Wonka Bars for the whole class!
We were hoping that this would be a good batch with MANY golden tickets inside!
I asked the kids to wait until they got home to open the Wonka Bar, and to send me a photo IF and ONLY IF there was a golden ticket inside.
LOOK AT THESE PICTURES!! This was indeed a great batch! Every single person got a golden ticket!

Thursday
Well, since we will get to visit the Willy Wonka Chocolate Factory with Charlie, we might as well learn how to make some candy!
Today, we learned how to make taffy from marshmallows (and cornstarch to help it not stick to our fingers!).
It took a lot of kneading and patience...
Friday
Today, we finally got to enter into Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory together with Augustus Gloop, Violet Beauregarde, Veruca Salt, Mike Teavee, and Charlie Bucket.
I showed the kids my favorite scene in the whole movie...The Chocolate Room with the edible garden!!
After we watched the video clip, we got to create our own edible garden using Oreos for dirt, edible Easter grass, gummy worms, chocolate rocks, and star sprinkles for flowers.
Here we are crushing the Oreos to make dirt...
Here are our edible gardens! And of course we got to eat them all up after we were done.
