We boarded our bus on Wednesday morning, and traveled back in time to the Colonial days.
Our class was from the township of Bedford, and Mrs. Krueger's class was from Chesterfield.
After the formal welcome speech, we were off to our first activity of the day.
Candle making must have taken a lot of patience back then. We dipped ours in the hot wax only twice, but they had to repeat the process 100 times to create a large candle.
Next, we got to try out our weaving skills. I don't think any of us will be making our own blankets any time soon!
The boys were particularly interested in the tomahawk and the rifle that this gentleman displayed. There were quite a few items from the past that the children got to look at.
Everyone loved writing with the quill pens. They all said that it was harder than they had imagined. We are grateful for our mechanical pencils:)
Look at these fine gentlemen greeting the ladies in such a proper manner!
And what lovely ladies responding with their curtsy.
We learned from the book of manners written by George Washington when he was only 16 years old.
As their final activity, the students got to experience some old fashioned toys. It was great to see the kids enjoying the outdoors, running around and having fun with WOODEN TOYS instead of video games :)
Look at the beautiful blue sky! This was a perfect day to spend outdoors.
Yes, the 3rd grade teachers survived the ride with 55 energetic kids on the bus.
And this is how I relaxed that evening. I had some whipped cream and ice cream with a little bit of apple pie from Riley's Farm :)
