Hands On Math

Understanding "Place Value" in math is crazy-important in our math program. They must know the value of each digit in a number. They need to know what it looks like when you add 10 to 2,456, or subtract 100 from 3,789. 

We don't want them just writing on paper...we want them to SHOW us what that looks like concretely.

I was quite impressed at how they worked so well in randomly chosen partners. Everyone stayed on task.

Nicely done, boys and girls. I'm very proud of you!!

Hello My Name Is...

Thank you for helping your child answer the questions to the "Hello My Name Is..." paper. It was very interesting to find out the various meanings of your children's names.

First Day of School!!

Hello to all of my 3rd grade parents! What an awesome start of the new school year!! Here are a few shots from the first day of school.

I hope you were able to join us for the all-school prayer time that morning...wasn't that amazing? I love the fact that we can all worship the Lord together as a school, and proclaim the fact that Jesus Christ is the Head of Upland Christian Academy.

As you already know, our school theme this year is, "Let It Shine" (thus the name of this class blog, as well as the blog address). We know that when we shine God's Word into our lives, He directs our steps. Look what happened when we turned off the lights in the gym...

...we all LET IT SHINE!!!!
