The Power of Sound!

Welcome to the very first blog of the 2017-2018 school year! The purpose of the classroom blog is for the parents to get a little glimpse of what the students experience during the school day. When my kids were in elementary school, I remember loving seeing the photos of classroom activities. I hope you enjoy them as much as I did.

In science, we have been learning about all kinds of ENERGY. We recently performed a science lab in which we attempted to move an object solely with the energy of sound.

We learned about compression waves, vibration, and the effect of how distance or volume could change the outcome of our experiment.

In these action pics, the students are saying "Ahhhh" near a cup covered in saran wrap with salt sprinkled on top.

They observed the effect of the sound waves. They were delighted to see the salt particles dance off of their cups!

Like true scientists, they wrote down their predictions                       and their observations.

Don't you just LOVE the attitude of this cute little scientist?! :)

Yes, I tried my very best to make them crack up as I took the photos...successful for some, but not for others!

I LOVE ALL OF MY SCIENTISTS!!!

End of the Year Luau 2017

Our End of the Year Luau was a huge hit! These 3 were ready to PARTY!

We began our day with some hula dancers.

The kids got to join in the dancing!

Hula isn't just for girls. This guy came to show us a manly dance!!

Look at the boys' faces! They really got into the facial expressions.

Our next rotation was outside...there were 2 obstacle courses that were awesome.

Then it was KONA ICE time!! What a treat! It was perfect after the obstacle course exercise.

We also had a sea turtle craft station. They turned out super cute.

The final station was the lei-making class. They did a great job.

Thanks to the Guida's, our Hawaiian lunch was delicious...we had sweet chicken with pineapples, and an amazing sugar cookie!

I didn't take any photos of our afternoon, but the kids enjoyed the movie MOANA. It was so cute to hear all of them burst out in song :)

Thank you again to all of our parent volunteers. Our day was full of  OHANA love.
