STORE DAY 2026

The day that we've all been waiting for has finally arrived! It's STORE DAY!!!!!!πŸ’°πŸ’ΈπŸ’°πŸ’Έ

The students came very well-prepared. Look at their creative signs and decorations!

After the set-up was complete, they each received their wallet with $25 of spending money.

Next, the students lined up to visit the Bank of Johnston.

They introduced themselves, told the loan officer what kind of business they were starting, and asked for the loan.

Finally, it was time to shop! The girls were the consumers, and the boys were the producers for the first round.

Don't let the calmness fool you...the noise level got crazier as the rounds went on!

I caught some transactions on pictures. It was so cool to see them paying and counting change correctly!

After all the shopping was done, the kids went back to the Bank of Johnston to return the loan.

Then they counted their profit. For those who could not pay back the full amount, they had to work around the classroom to earn their money back.

Congratulations to the top 3 winners!

Best. Social Studies. Lesson. EVER.

I went home completely exhausted, but it was totally worth it!

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory Week 2

DAY 6

Today was a tough day for Augustus Gloop.

Because of his greed and lack of self-control, he fell into the Chocolate River!

We also heard the Oompa Loompas sing for the very first time, and it cracked us up!

Once again, Mrs. Johnston was able to contact the Willy Wonka Chocolate Factory, and get some of the Chocolate River BEFORE Augustus Gloop fell in. Whew.

The last thing we wanted was to taste Augustus-flavored chocolate. Yuck.

Here is a video of us trying a sampling of the Chocolate River. Of course it was delicious because it had been mixed by a chocolate waterfall, which was Mr. Wonka's invention.

Day 7

Today, we got to go inside of Mr. Wonka's INVENTION ROOM!

One of his creations is the Everlasting Gobstopper. Mrs. Johnston surprised everyone with a box of Gobstoppers for all to try!

Here we are, acting like we are "flabbergasted" since it's one of our vocabulary words:

We used our imagination and wrote down the flavors that we tasted!

DAY 8

We continued to tour through the Chocolate Factory with the characters today, and heard about some more crazy candy inventions!

We were particularly interested in the Fizzy Lifting Drink.

We were wondering if it would truly work or not...

What a bummer! We got a bad batch of it, so it didn't make us float. OH WELL.

We weren't too disappointed because we got to sample some lick-able wallpaper!

Here is a picture from the movie where Charlie and Grandpa Joe got to lick the wall and taste the various kinds of fruit, including the Snozzberry!

Look at us licking the wall of our classroom! It was quite delicious!

NEVER a dull moment in Mrs. Johnston's classroom...🀣!!

DAY 9

Many of Mr. Wonka's inventions were crazy!

We read about the Invisible Chocolate that you could eat in the classroom so you wouldn't get caught by the teacher.

Mrs. Johnston handed out the Invisible Chocolate to each student, and here's a video of the kids taking their first bite:

We also read about the Exploding Candy for Your Enemies!

We were a little bit unsure about putting the explosives in our mouths, but we were brave and lived through it!

LAST DAY OF READING!!

What a sad day...we had to say good bye to Charlie today.

We were SO thrilled for him and his family, though! What a wonderful ending to the story.

And the fact that the other 4 kids were fine, and they each learned their lessons was a great relief.

We didn't get to go home with a lifetime supply of candy from Mr. Wonka, but at least we got a lollipop!

And hopefully the last 2 weeks have created some core childhood memories that will last for a lifetime! πŸ’œπŸ’œπŸ’œπŸ’œπŸ’œπŸ’œπŸ’œπŸ’œπŸ’œπŸ’œπŸ’œπŸ’œπŸ’œπŸ’œπŸ’œπŸ’œπŸ’œπŸ’œπŸ’œπŸ’œπŸ’œ

Please don't show the movie to them at home. We will be enjoying it together on the last week of school.
